Yesterday we celebrated our 3 year anniversary with many of our close friends and family, and a few of our coaches received well deserved promotions.
After a long and very difficult road, with many ups and downs, Michelle Welti was promoted to the rank of Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! The only people who can fully understand how significant this achievement is are people who have done it themselves. Michelle is one of the most inspiring women in our sport, and her passion has changed the lives of countless women and children. Her dedication to the art is made evident through her many titles and victories, and even more so in her losses. She is one of the toughest competitors in BJJ, but always remains humble and that is a rare quality. Thank you for all that you do for our community.
Rising to the rank of Purple Belt was coach Jose Marquez. Jose has been absolutely essential in growing our family, and is one of the most important people at Dominion BJJ. He helps instruct almost every kids BJJ class, the kids Muay Thai classes, does private lessons, and still finds time to train BJJ at least 3 times a week. Jose held our Muay Thai program together for many years, and now it has grown into a huge class with many successful competitors, and a nearly perfect record. Thank you coach!
In a surprise promotion, Jose’s brother Isai “J” Cruz was promoted to a long overdue Blue Belt. Like his brother, Isai has been a key player in growing our kids programs. We wouldn’t have been able to create our 3-5 year old class if it wasn’t for his help, and also his beautiful children for being such awesome students. Thank you!
It was a very humbling experience being on the mats with 117 people at the same time. And thats just the people in gis, not to mention the parents and families that joined us off the mats. Words can’t express how much we appreciate each and every one of you who came to celebrate with us, and those who weren’t able to join us yesterday, for your support. Our school wouldn’t exist if it weren’t all of you and we are truly grateful for you all.
